About Us

Welcome!

Cassel is a rural church community that seeks to follow Christ in ways of peace, love and justice. We endeavour to serve the needs of our community and provide hospitable spaces and events to bring our community together.
Everyone is welcome to our events and our worship gathering on Sunday mornings at 10 am followed by coffee and conversations.

Pastor wanda

Pastor Wanda is in her ninth year as pastor at Cassel. She lives in Kitchener with her husband and has three young adult daughters. She loves to minister to and serve the Cassel community.

At Cassel Mennonite Church we are: a community of people who love the Lord who, by the power of the Holy Spirit, reach out with the good news of God’s love
and help each other and those in the community meet their needs and experience faith in Christ.

On 5 May 1935, 162 people met to worship for the first time as the Cassel Amish Mennonite Church. The Cassel congregation resulted from overcrowded conditions at the nearby East Zorra Amish Mennonite Church, located on the 16th Line of East Zorra township on Oxford County, Ontario. The Cassel congregation purchased an unused church building from the Evangelical Church on the 17th Line, just one concession road to the east.

Until 1964 the Cassel and East Zorra congregations functioned as one congregation with a joint pastoral team of Bishop Daniel Iutzi, ministers Jacob R. Bender and Menno Kipfer, and deacons Dan Wagler and David Swartzentruber. The preaching switched from German to English in 1930. In 1964, Cassel voted to become an independent congregation when Vernon Zehr was pastor.

In 1994-1995, the congregation carried out a major addition and other significant renovations to the church building.

On 7-9 May 2010, the congregation celebrated its 75th anniversary.

Cassel Mennonite Church is a warm, welcoming, and caring church located at the corner of the 17th Line and the Cassel side road of East Zorra Township near Tavistock.  Our attempt as we make our way in this world is to live our faith by treating others with kindness, being globally conscious and developing our own spirituality. We also believe in the importance of community and strive to support one another in the joys and challenges life brings.

Our denominational affiliation is with the Mennonite Church Eastern Canada and Mennonite Church Canada. We are Christians of the historic "Peace Church" tradition. We seek to live peaceably with all, work toward justice in our world and strive to follow the teachings of Christ.
